Here's a 15mm T-72, by Quick Reaction Force, painted as a Chechen White Raven.
From what little information I have found about the White Ravens, it seems the Chechens used T-72As in the first Chechen war, with whitewashed turrets to distinguish them from their Russian counterparts. However, I pulled the wrong tank out of my box of unpainted vehicles so my Chechens now have access to QRF's T-72B. As my only opponent's knowledge of Russian military vehicles after 1945 is hazy at best, I'm not too bothered by that. The green I used does bother me though - it seems too bright - but I've got more miniatures to slap paint on first so re-painting this one will have to wait for another time.
Interesting. I wasn't aware modern armies used any sort of paint schemes to distinguish friend from foe like this. That White Raven scheme is really eye catching. Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for being the first person to comment on my blog! I suppose the problem arose because Chechnya, as a former Soviet republic, had the same tanks as the Russians, right down to the paint job. While it looks distinctive on the wargames table, I'm not sure how beneficial it was to the Chechens in real life. Their supply of tanks was exhausted pretty quickly, according to accounts I have read.
